Parental entries on hearing in Child Health and Development record: How reliable in early detection of paediatric hearing loss?

Aim: To assess the effectiveness of parental entries regarding functional hearing in Child Health and Development Record(CHDR), patients with severe to profound loss, detection issues by public health midwife(PHM). Material Method: A descriptive cross sectional study was carried out among parents/caregivers children loss who underwent cochlear implantation before age 5 years from 01.01.2017 31.12. 2018 at Lady Ridgeway hospital for children, Sri Lanka. An interviewer administered questionnaire used based on assessment CHDR. Results: The mother birth index child spans 17years 50 years. Majority( 64.1% ) had another older child. majority were diagnosed between 18-24 months. 9 months upto Average waiting period 2 correct observed as follows: 20.8% birth, 22.7% 1 month 22.6% 4 months, 7 12 respectively. Among those have not marked or incorrectly, 45.9% stated that they couldn't recognise impairment 23.4% reluctant accept it. Only 4% these referred further PHM. Conclusion: Parental PHM’s a child’s is reliable indicator detect early sensorineural deafness.
